DOES WAGE GAP EXIST BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN?

The tables of monthly cost of working (men and women) for the 1st  quarter of years 2000  – 2006 -2007 show differences between the two sexes. But also with base the most recent elements of OECD which are sold (2002) there is also wage difference between sexes in Greece which reaches to 13%.

For 1998 the wage gap in private sector is 21% and it is bigger than the mean of EU, as opposed to the state where it is 9% and it is smaller than the mean of EU.

Although exists powerful system, which protects the wages in Greece, take place a lot of infringements of working legislation and this creates problems to the efforts which become to be decreased the wage difference. While existed legislation about wages between   men and women and it helped in the reduction of difference, when it was equal wage for the same work, doesn’t become the same, when it is equal wage for work of equal value. On this case the women fall short, because many times the employers themselves or the consumers do not have the opinion that the women are as productive as men are.
